Some interesting developments on the internet governance front.
There have been some interesting new developments in the internet governance area.
After the EU backed down from their push to take the internet’ root servers and top level domains out of the hands of ICANN, thanks to a letter from the US government to the UK’s Foreign Secretary, there seems to be a new private initiative to get this done centered around the Burr proposal.
I am taking a wait and see attitude on this. Much as I want to see change, I am not sure this initiative will be able to get much traction given what happened with the work that the EU was doing. I will keep an ear out for developments on this front in the news and on blogs like Michael Geist’s and Ethan Zuckerman’s where debate/commentary about stuff like this is usually very informative.
