musical link: Some re-runs - Les Wanyika & Orchestra Les Mangelepa

A couple of tracks from this week from artists whom I have featured before. I actually posted part 1 of both these tracks in the past and now have the complete tracks for both.

+ Les Wanyika: Sina Makosa (extended mix)
East African rhumba circa 1970/1980 Les Wanyika - Sina Makosa

+ Orchestra Les Mangelepa: Nyako Konya (pt. 1 & 2)
East African rhumba circa 1970/1980 Orchestra Les Mangelepa - Nyako Konya

Some other links to check out
+ John Nzenze

+ I keep coming back here - The Luo Jukebox by SurfaceScan.

+ Pandora - find new music. This site is very very good at what they do but they only get a B+ as they had no idea whom Les Wanyika, Maroon Commandos or Franco were.

+ Check out the DJ sets at Dylan Drazen a.k.a. “the Makers of the way you swing” mixes up some deep dish while teaching “Mixing 101″ on Double Miles. While the whole mix is excellent, start listening at about 49 minutes for the low down.

+ Dana Owens (also known as Queen Latifah to the hip-hoppers among you out there) kicks it up a notch : The Dana Owens album by Queen Latifah. An amazing set of performances from an great voice. I recommend starting with the track Hard Times. Watch out for this lady during the Grammys 5 years from now.

igree with you on Pandora. They send out occasional newsletters with new additions and if you write them they actually do take note so thats something. I complained about their lack of African artists so lets see what happens. On the other hand they have a pretty good jazz collection which cannot be found on Lastfm.

Bwana Steve, endelea kuweka hizi nyimbo hapa kwa net. They bring some sanity which we have lost in this side of the Ocean.
    DM.

I am always happy to hear that people out there are enjoying this bit of our rich heritage. Keep coming back.

Dear Steve, thank you for the Les Mangalepa and Les Wanyika tunes - I have just ordered a Les Mangalepa CD for my husband for Christmas. He was all teary eyed when he heard what I was playing as these were among the many bands he (and everybody else) had listened to growing up in Lusaka in the 1970’s and 1980’s. Merry Christmas and greetings from Prague! Veronika

Not sure which track you are interested in: I have posted a bunch of Mangelepa tracks before - try those first. If the one that you are looking for has not already gone up then you may have to be more specific.

it touches me to know that there are people out there who know what to do - it’s something Steve. The collection is too good and reminds me of how sweet yesterday was.

I sincerely laud your efforts to make us recall Rumba of yester years. Continue researching on the same ’cause this is what used to be part of our childhood lullabies.
